Vikerlased
Vikerlased is an Estonian mixed choir for LGBT+ people that was created for the queer community and their allies in 2017. It was the first LGBT+ choir in the Baltic States. The name Vikerlased comes from the Estonian word for rainbow – vikerkaar – and can be translated as rainbow people.
Vikerlased started as a small group, but has grown into a popular community choir. Vikerlased is a Tallinn-based choir that has members from Estonia and elsewhere. The choir has taken part in the Estonian Song Festival, performed at Prides in Latvia, Lithuania, Finland, Estonia and collaborated with choirs from Finland, Poland and the UK. In 2023 Vikerlased performed at Various Voices festival in Bologna and in 2024 they performed at the GALA festival in Minneapolis. In 2025 Vikerlased were awarded the title of Rainbow Heroes by the Estonian LGBT Association for their work for the LGBT+ community in Estonia. Vikerlased member Flame Boyance was crowned the Baltic Drag King 2025.
It is an honor for Vikerlased to represent our tiny country Estonia at Various Voices. There have been positive changes for Estonian LGBT+ community – as of 2024 same sex marriage became legal in Estonia. Also the general attitude towards LGBT+ people has become more liberal during the last years. We like to think our choir has contributed to changing attitudes in Estonia. Feeling the support of the European and international choral LGBT + community has given us confidence to do so.
