Oxford Proud Voices is queer community choir. We’re open to all LGBTQIA+ people aged 18+ and allies who support our values of inclusion, respect and active promotion of human and queer rights. Together we create a queer safe space and meet to sing for equality, solidarity and joy!

Established in September 2024, Oxford Proud Voices is Oxford’s first queer choir. We doubled in size during our 1st year, from around 30 singers at our first rehearsal to 60 in September 2025. We’re open to all, welcoming both new & experienced singers. Our MD is Philip Read (www.philipread.net); we sing a cappella & learn by ear, through ‘listen & repeat’. In our 1st year we staged two concerts & performed at Thame Pride. We sang at the weddings of OPV members on 2 occasions – one scheduled & one flash-mob-style! A fabulous network of social events runs alongside our singing adventures& OPV has quickly become a very special community – the safe, brave queer space we dreamed of creating.

Oxford Proud Voices is a relatively new choir – less than two years old when we take part in Various Voices. We hope that at least 30 of our members will be participating. For many, it will be a fabulous first experience of a queer choir festival. We’re so excited at this opportunity to meet singers from other choirs, to listen to their performances & to perform ourselves. It’s also our first time of being away together – a great opportunity to get to know each other better.
