Out Aloud is the LGBT+ community choir from the proud steel city of Sheffield in the UK. We have been singing together for 20 years and have been making music which represents our community to the world beyond our own; our community provides a safe space to be who we are. We sing together to promote well-being, confidence and belonging. We sing to be seen and heard. Our voices matter.

From small beginnings in 2006, we now have a membership of over 70 people. We contribute to the life of our city, and we fly the rainbow flags for Sheffield at festivals and events across the UK and Europe; from Aberystwyth to Whitby, from Dublin to Mönchengladbach. We have sung as the guests of Podium Paris at Gay Pride in Paris, and with the Pink Singers and Rainbow Voices Mumbai at the Cadogan Hall in London. Out Aloud is now an established part of Sheffield’s LGBT+ community and wider cultural life; from our annual December performance at the Winter Gardens, to IDAHOBIT and the city’s Holocaust memorial event, Kelham Pride and a growing list of invitations to perform at DocFest, the Showroom, Universities, schools and special events.

2026 is Out Aloud’s 20th Anniversary, so coming to Brussels to sing at Various Voices is important to us as part of our ‘birth’ year celebrations. We have taken part in Various Voices in Dublin and in Bologna (as well as Hand in Hand festivals in Cardiff and Bristol). We have enjoyed meeting other LGBTQ+ choirs from across the world, been amazed and entertained by the huge cross section of LGBTQ+ choir performances and experienced the joy of just being part of a community where diversity and being ourselves is celebrated and honoured. (P.S. we’re also looking forward to the beer and moules frites!)
