Barcelona Gay Men’s Chorus
At Barcelona Gay Men’s Chorus, not everything is as obvious as it seems. We have a straight director. A cisgender woman who sings in Sign Language. And we’re amateurs who perform on the professional circuit. 70 male voices, breathtaking choreography, and a studio album — after nearly 12 years, BCNGMC still keeps surprising!
During our performance at the Duse Theatre in Bologna in 2023, the backing track for You Raise Me Up stopped halfway through the song. We thought our director wanted us to sing a cappella as a surprise, but later we found out it was a technical error — and we pulled through. We’ve performed on beautiful stages in Palma (Mallorca), Bologna, Brighton, and Alicante, but one of the most spectacular was in our own city: the modernist complex of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997. Since we were founded in 2014, we’re the first LGTBIQA+ choir in Spain to release a studio album and this 2026, we’re touring a musical of our creation, our new show Shampoo.
We’re really looking forward to experiencing Various Voices in Brussels! It will be our second time participating, and we believe it’s the best showcase to discover the full diversity of styles within the LGTBIQA+ choral community in Europe — and to share our own way of understanding music. We learned so much in Bologna that we’re eager to make our participation in 2026 even better and enjoy it like never before. We can’t wait to make new friends and experience the Belgian hospitality!
