Zauberflöten – Cologne’s only gay men’s chorus – entertains with stage programs combining singing and choreography – ironic and funny, contemplative and romantic. The repertoire is as diverse as gay life itself: a variety of arranged songs in multi-part harmonies, a cappella or accompanied by piano.

Founded in 1994, Zauberflöten have developed ten programs and presented them in Cologne as well as in many other cities.
Zauberflöten demonstrate social commitment and vocal power, for example at Cologne’s “Night of Lights” for World AIDS Day. They are particularly committed to their sponsorship of the memorial commemorating the lesbian and gay victims of National Socialism on the banks of the Rhine in Cologne. The choir walks in Cologne’s pride parade every year.
In 2026, Zauberflöten will participate in the Various Voices Festival for the first time with their new conductor, Falko Hönisch. The choir will be accompanied on the piano by Andreas Link.

Since their first participation in Various Voices in Berlin in 2001, Zauberflöten have always looked forward to taking part in this wonderful festival again and again. Besides their own performances, Zauberflöten are excited to experience and cheer on the other choirs. As the political situation for queer people worldwide is becoming increasingly difficult, Various Voices Brussels 2026 is a great opportunity to empower one another and experience a strong sense of community again.
