Sweet & Power
Sweet & Power is a women’s choir from Bern, founded in 1996. We’ll be celebrating our 30th anniversary in 2026! Sweet & Power’s repertoire is stylistically diverse: in addition to well-known pop songs, chansons, and folk songs, we also enjoy unearthing lesser-known songs and giving them a fresh new twist with our own arrangements. Since 2024, we have been singing exclusively a cappella under the direction of Susanne Grossenbacher.
The performances at the festivals were undoubtedly all highlights of our choir’s history. We had a very special and wonderful performance at the Swiss national exhibition ‘Expo02,’ where we performed together with other musicians and choirs. We fondly remember small mishaps, such as the time our choir director’s tuning fork, which she had placed in her décolleté while conducting, fell to the floor all the way through her dress. Or a singer who simply could not open the umbrella during the piece ‘Raindrops’ and, with her futile attempts, added her own choreography to the piece.
Since its beginnings, Sweet & Power hasn’t missed a Various Voices Festival. Participating in the VV is undoubtedly a highlight, and we are incredibly proud to be part of this fantastic event. These days with the diverse queer choirs and people leave most of the singers of Sweet and Power with a strong sense of community.
