Hinsegin kórinn (Reykjavik Queer Choir)
Hinsegin kórinn is Iceland’s first queer choir and is celebrating it’s 15th anniversary this year! Consisting of around 80 diverse individuals, the choir places an emphasis on being a community – and a family – for all of it’s members as well as promoting the visibility of queer people.
Hinsegin kórinn/Reykjavík Queer Choir is Iceland’s first queer choir and has been active since 2011. It started as a small group of people (the first time the choir went on a choir retreat the members all fit – mostly comfortably – in one big hot tub) but has evolved into a group of 80 diverse individuals (the hot tub is now sadly too small…). This year we are celebrating our 15th anniversary. Hinsegin kórinn has participated in Various Voices in Dublin-2014, Munchen-2018 and Bologna-2023 as well as Queertune (Nordic LHBTIQ choir festival) in Helsinki in 2017 and Copenhagen in 2025. In 2027 the choir will host Queertune in Reykjavík and we hope to see all of our Nordic friends there!
Various Voices 2026 will be the fourth Various Voices festival Hinsegin kórinn participates in. We have always felt a strong sense of community and belonging at previous festivals. Many members have built lifelong friendships and connections with people from all over the world at VV and we can’t wait to share another festival filled with music and like-minded people with all of you!
