Gemengd Dameskoor
For 37 years, our choir has consisted of a group of enthusiastic singing women in Groningen. We’re diverse in all kinds of senses, hence the name Gemengd Dameskoor (Mixed Ladies Choir), although we’d love to see some more age-diversity. Our repertoire is diverse as well. Come and see for yourself.
In 1988 twenty women responded to a call from Marlies de Waard, who needed her own choir for her choir conductor training, and during a gathering in women’s café De Derde Dame a new choir was born! Our wish: be a proper choir with a beautiful, serious repertoire. What that repertoire should be wasn’t clear yet, but one thing was certain: no feminist battle songs. In 1995 together with male choir Zangzaad we organized an LGBTI choir festival and called it Various Voices Festival, a lasting name was born. Over the years we’ve made two CDs, attended a lot of VV festivals, collaborated on a musical about lesbian life in Groningen, and we survived corona! Now we’re looking forward to VV Brussels!
We are looking forward to meeting like-minded people to sing, talk and celebrate with, and above all to show ourselves in this immense ambiance to emphasize that diversity is a must and that no one has the right to mess with our freedom!
