DynamiQ Voices
DynamiQ Voices is the Dutch city Utrecht’s first queer choir. Their genderless voice-groups allow all members to sing in a vocal range that’s comfortable to them. Singing a repertoire that consist of mostly queer artists, their songs translate moments in a queer life that one might find recognition in; from feeling lost, looking for your community, love, and heartbreak to celebrating queer joy and finding your chosen family.
DynamiQ Voices was founded in 2022 to fill a gap in the local choir landscape: a choir where all forms of queerness are celebrated, voice groups are not gendered, and the repertoire is chosen by the members themselves. With this outlook, we have gotten the opportunity to perform during Pride-events, a live-recording of a popular lesbian podcast and queer culture events in several Dutch cities. Last year, we were nominated for an inclusivity award, celebrating people or organizations that make a special effort to promote the acceptance and visibility of Utrecht’s LGBTQIA+ community.
The opportunity to share the room and the stage with so many other queer choirs is uplifting and motivating. It is heartwarming to ‘preach to the choir(s)’ and lift each other up through music, so that, when we will all go back to our hometowns, this energy can be given back to the audiences who need it there. Musically, it is inspiring to discover the styles of other choirs and to see how their compositions translate into their unique voices.
