chor canta:re e.V.
canta:re is Berlin’s biggest mixed queer choir, singing classical repertoire across centuries. Founded in 2002, our ~50 diverse voices perform with passion and pride under Canadian conductor Ben Cruchley.
Founded in 2002, canta:re has grown into Berlin’s biggest mixed queer choir with around 50 singers. We focus on classical repertoire from Renaissance to contemporary music – adding a different shade to the queer choir scene. Taking a stand is important to us: we perform not only in Berlin’s major venues, but also in regions with only a small queer community, like a castle in rural Thuringia, to make diversity visible. We also support art projects against right-wing violence, such as at Haus der Kulturen der Welt. Fun fact? Our least attended concert had four listeners – two people, a donkey and a half-deaf dog.
For canta:re, Various Voices Brussels 2026 is more than a festival: it’s a celebration of queer visibility, community and music across Europe. As Berlin’s biggest mixed queer choir with a focus on classical repertoire, we are excited to add this unique color to the festival, share our passion and connect with others.
